Meet Dan Koven, persistent Orange County Entrepreneur focused on Health Insurance for Small Business and Families
How did you get started?
Allan Koven CLU, my father and founder started Koven Insurance over 35 years ago in Anaheim. I joined the business 5 years ago after selling an internet company I was a co-owner of based in Newport Beach. We’ve been a true “family-based” business since inception and intend to keep it that way. Community, service and personal connection is very important to us. We tell people that it doesn’t cost a penny more to use an experienced agent. That’s a value added fact.
How is your business doing?
With Obamacare’s inception becoming law in a matter of mere months, we’re working hard as advisors to understand every aspect of this landmark health insurance legislation reform. It’s been a roller coaster of a year so far but we’re confident that with client education and patience and our ability to help navigate these tricky waters, it will, eventually, be seamless.
What gets you going?
An advisor of any professional field has an important obligation to their clients. They need to listen closely instead of talking. They need to digest information and offer practical solutions. What gets me going? Waking up each morning knowing I’m helping someone through a confusing and often complex process. That feels good. It feels right.
What are your products or services, and key benefits?
We specialize in individual/family and small business (under 50 lives) health insurance, but at our company we write a lot of life insurance, both permanent and temporary, for families as well. We also offer dental, vision and other insurance lines as well as annuities, disability and medicare.
Who are your customers? Can you share a brief story?
Our clients are business owners, homemakers, students, professionals, the guy working at Subway and everyone in between who understands how important having insurance is.
What are your 2013-2014 goals?
We really enjoy working with small group business owners. There’s bound to be plethora of questions pertaining to employee benefits over the next year and we are poised to answer every single one of them. The law is complicated. We are certified to market within the Covered California exchange and licensed to market “off the exchange”.
Can you share some tips with the community?
Persistence, honesty and diligence is crucial when dealing with something as personal as insurance. Running a business such as this requires extraordinary communication skills and follow through. Rapport is imperative, of course.
