Fiber Optic Highway; The New Farm to Market Road

For so many decades now, politicians in my country (Philippines) are always finding ways and means to facilitate the agriculture goods of the Filipino farmers from the rural area up to the central cities and the International market.  Concrete roads and bridges are being built and re-built for so many years now, but still the problem of slow logistical system allowing the agriculture goods to perish on the road going to the main central market.  The slow logistical system will allow the small farmers to sell their goods just in the neighboring provinces in a much lower price just to get the breakeven of the whole farming season operation.

With this aspect, large scale farming industry has the advance mechanism to fasten and hasten their logistical operation allowing their goods to arrive in the central market or even abroad in a much earlier time.  Furthermore, these large business operators can even monopolies the market and killing the small time farming businesses across the country.  Until this time this problem is still the main clamor of the small time farmers in the country.

The integration of the new concept in computer technology and the “internet of everything” can be a solution to the small time farmers in the Philippines provided that the government will support this new farm to market road which is the “Fiber Optic Highway”.  The bill passed by Senator Bam Aquino related to the internet enhancement and providing free wifi points across the archipelago is the good starting point to maximize the internet as a tool to fasten the flow of actual farm goods.  With the application of “internet of everything” The senate Bill no. 1091 can be of actual use to the common farmers.

The common notion of the common farmers in the provinces that computer is only for gaming and for social media or “facebook” can be an obsolete notion giving the fact that the new technological breakthrough in farming can be real time case in the desktop of the owner of the farm.  I hope that more follow-up bills from congress and senate will be implemented to maximize the internet program of the present government.  Though the obvious set back is the high cost of computer hardware, but investing in high technological farming can save the goods of the farmers and eventually realize the expenses incurred during the installation of the computer infrastructure.
