Interview | A womans perspective on cars

It’s a man’s world, ok, that might be sexist. It’s a tough world for woman, especially when it comes to cars. With the general backyard mechanic seeing dollar signs when a woman brings in her car when something is wrong, and that is partly to blame on the media. Pictures of half naked woman wearing heals long enough to be considered a murder weapon litter the internet, giving true female car enthusiasts a negative image.

Why then are car manufactures building cutesy car-like machines that are dreadful and downright worthless? They paint them in bright colours, then pops them full of teenage models to snap pictures of "it" for marketing, hoping it will appeal to the female market. Now I am not a woman, and I have learnt not to try and know how they work, or think. But this is bothersome to me, why are car manufactures littering the roads with cars that are barely worthy of the name, let alone the price you pay for it?

Gabriella, an old friend of mine, has agreed to help me on this. And she is a perfect example. She is small in stature, weighs about as much as my Boerboel, and likes to be aggressive towards parking machines.

JOC: As a woman, what is your general experience when it comes to you having to service your car?

GA: Not good!!!! I think I get ripped off every time because I don’t know any better. Mechanics take women for rides!!! (excuse the pun)

JOC: If money were not an issue what would you drive?

GA: Aaaaah…… A Golf 6 GTI , An Audi R8 or a Chevrolet Camaro

JOC: Which do you prefer, American muscle, cutesy cars like the Honda Brio, Classics, tuned, sleepers, or old school cars like the Mazda Mx5?

GA: American Muscle and Tuned

JOC: The car industry wants to force little breadbox cars on women, what do you thing about that?

GA: Well for most women it would work. But there are the few exceptions like myself that won’t accept that. I enjoy cars and speed so a little 1400 car doesn’t make me happy.

JOC: What is your most memorable motoring memory?

GA: My favourite memory so far was when I went for a spin at a car show. They take you and drift around three corners and do doughnuts etc. I LOVED IT!!!!

JOC: Every day driving, what annoys you about it?

GA: Soooo much……. Slow drivers in the wrong lanes. People that can’t stay in their lanes. Over and unnecessary use of brakes. And people that go through robots once they’ve turned red, like waiting an extra 3 min won’t change your life, just stop and wait!!!!

JOC: Do you believe everything a mechanic tells you?

GA: NEVER!!!!!

JOC: There are tons of aftermarket body kits, would you actually consider putting them on your car?

GA: Yes I would. Nothing too crazy though, just something basic

JOC: E-Toll?

GA: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA………………………….

JOC: What realy irks you when it comes to traffic?

GA: Impatient drivers that go in the yellow lane.

JOC: Is there such a thing as too much power?

GA: Yes and no.. you need to know how to handle it.

So there you have it. The Automotive world from a ladies perspective is not that different from ours. Now, Mr Mechanic, please stop harrasing people like Gabriella, and start fixing the cars they pay you to fix!
