When the hot and humid weather arrives, even those with skin on the dry side can experience a bit of a struggle. There is a big difference between a little bit of shine on the skin and a down right oil slick. What can we do to combat the greasy glow in pursuit of a healthy glow? Here are few tips to help avoid the oily take over and keep skin moisturized without getting greasy. Choose the Right Cleanser for Oily SkinThe first step to any healthy skin care regimen starts with cleansing. Choose a cleanser that is formulated for oily skin. If your cleanser is designed to slow the production of sebum as well as remove excess oil from the surface then you are using the right product. Be sure to cleanse your skin using warm water twice a day, in the morning when you wake up and before going to bed. I love cleansers with jojoba beads to help smooth and polish and, anything with citrus makes me think of clean skin. It also makes me think of clean dishes but hey, that's another story. Look for natural ingredients like Aloe vera to provide nice, lightweight moisture as well.Opt for a Serum I've talked to so many people who tell me they just can't bear to apply a heavy moisturizer to their skin, especially during the warmer seasons. No problem. Serums are a great way to go. They are lighter in weight then most lotions and creams and deliver moisture deeper into the outer layers of the skin.. They are the perfect solution to help avoid the greasy take over. Apply a Primer Some people love primer and some think it's a waste of time. You can decide it they are right for you by giving one a try. Opt for a mattifying primer that helps reduce the appearance of shine. It will help your makeup go on smoother and should keep that excess oil at bay. Primers these days have some amazing ingredients that go beyond just aiding in makeup application. And look for one with antioxidant vitamins. We can use all the help we can get against free radicals in the environment. Sunscreen is Still a Must Don't Over Apply Everyone struggles with determining the right amount of product to apply. Most of us can get away with about a dime size of product for our face when it comes to our serums and day and night creams. Too much product can really add to that oily shine. Here's a quick tip to ensure you get the right amount of product and don't over do it. Apply five small dots of product to your forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. Then, simply blend upwards and outwards. Upwards to go against gravity and outwards all the way to your hair line. Let it dry. If after this step you feel an area needs a bit more product, then apply more only to that area. I use one pump of product and apply it this way every day. For some reason I always need a bit more moisturizer on the left side of my forehead. I am convinced this is the area of my face that is most exposed to the sun when I am driving and therefore has suffered over the years. Give Yourself a Clay Mask Masking can be greatly beneficial when it comes to combating oily skin. It's not something that you need to do every day, but once a week or so can provide wonderful benefits to the skin. Bentonite clay is my favorite type of clay because it is known for its absorbing and toning properties. A bentonite clay mask will remove oil, dirt and dead skin. This helps to prevent pore clogging, which ultimately lead to breakouts. A good clay mask should help diminish the appearance of pore size as well. A Few More Quick Tips to Help Manage Oily Skin
