We've all had those mornings of sheer panic when we accidentally oversleep, or can't seem to get it together quick enough to get out the door. That overwhelming feeling, coupled with the manic panic rush, never works out. It's when we don't have the time that we seem to fumble over the simplest of tasks. And if there is one thing that doesn't sustain fumbling, it's our morning beauty regimen.
Did you ever notice that when you are out of time in the morning, things just seem to fall apart? You are out of toothpaste, you can't keep a bar of soap in your hand, your mascara has disappeared, you can only find one shoe and EVERYTHING in your closet needs ironing.   I think we have probably all headed for the door with bedhead, no makeup and clothes that look like they just came out of the hamper. Is this truly necessary? No! There are a few simple tricks that we can all follow to help savor that much needed time in the morning. Yes, you can leave the house looking fabulous, even if you have just minutes to spare.
I'll admit it; I am definitely NOT a morning person. I count my minutes the night before to ensure that I will have enough time to get ready for work in the morning and take advantage of every single second of beauty sleep I can possibly get. If I know that I am going to have an early morning, I take as many proactive steps as possible to preserve those precious minutes. But on those mornings when things don't go as planned and I oversleep, the tone of the day can really suffer. You've heard of a bad hair day? How about a bad beauty day? Here are a few of my morning time saving tips that unfortunately, I have to use more often than I would like. Sigh…

Be Prepared

If the alarm clock isn't your friend, do as much as you can the night before to ease into the morning rush. Get your shower or bath out of the way, apply your all over body lotion and maybe even mist yourself with a bit of fragrance before you go to bed. And think about what you might wear. If your clothing needs ironing spend the extra few minutes taking care of it when you don't have to rush. Those extra minutes on a manic-panic morning can seem like a lifetime. Do as much as you can the night before to ensure that you are in the "go" position if need be.
Take the minimal approach with your hair
I always look for quick fixes when it comes to my hair in the morning. The go-to ponytail, quick braid or even a hat can work on most days. But, if you need some extra help and don't have time to wash, style, blow dry, curl, etc…do just the basics. If it's your bangs or roots that are the problem simply section them off and do a quick shampoo and rinse in your sink. Grab your round brush and blow dryer and you are good to go in just a few minutes. By freshening up your bangs or just the front pieces of your hair at the crown, you can turn your bed head into a stylish do in no time. If you find yourself in a real pinch for time grab some dry shampoo and spray those roots. It will help absorb the excess oils and give your hair a bit more volume.
Set it at cool
No time to wait for your skin care products to dry or your makeup to set? Reach for your blow dryer. Put the temperature setting on cool and give your skin a windy blast. Your products will dry down in no time at all and you will be on to your next morning beauty step in seconds. I love this tip because I need my skin care products in the morning no matter what. And the last thing I want to do is skip a precious serum or moisturizer because I am running out of time.
De-Clutter
We all have way too many beauty products floating around. When time is a luxury it's fun to experiment with them and pick and choose what fancies us the most on any given day. But, when in a hurry, that clutter can add precious time to our morning beauty routine. If you have products that you don't use on a regular basis, get them out of the way. Keep the products that you do use on a daily basis front and center with easy access to them. If you know you are going to have a hurried morning, line up all of your skin care products and cosmetics in the order that you will apply them. I did this last night and it really does help. Just line them up from left to right; your Cleanser, Toner, Serum, Moisturizer and so on. With everything right at your fingertips, you won't waste one precious moment digging around looking for things.
Think Multi-Purpose
Looking for a bit more beauty sleep in the morning? Think Multi-purpose products that will get the job done in half the time. Look for items such as hydrating cleanser, tinted moisturizer, de-puffing concealer, all in one cheek, lip and eye color, tinted lip balm and so on. The guys have the multi—purpose concept down to a tee with all in one shampoo, conditioner and body wash being a popular option.
The trick is to save time, and if these products can cut back on those precious minutes, then they might just be worth a try.
Follow the 3 E's
I learned this tip from the amazing makeup artist Laura Geller. If you are in a major time crunch but need to put your best face forward, focus on the 3 E's. Think eyebrows, eyeliner and eyelashes. It's really that simple. Give a quick brush and, if necessary, add a bit of color to your brows. Swoop on a bit of eyeliner and wiggle your mascara wand through your lashes for a bit of eye opening wow. If you put your focus on the 3 E's, you can still dab on a bit of lip balm or apply a pouf of blush in just seconds. No one will ever know you were in a race against the clock.
I am always looking for some practical tips to save me time in the morning. Whether you have overslept, are traveling, or you are hitting the gym during your lunch hour, every minute counts when it comes to our beauty regimen.   When all else fails just stick to the basic steps that will get you through the morning and re-address later in the day when you have time. On my most manic panic days I do as little as possible to get me where I am going and then bee line it for the powder room to do a bit more. We all have our own unique routines. And, I would love to hear about yours! Please, please, I beg of you, please leave me any of your time saving tips in the comments section below. I am always looking for a tip to get me to work on time.
