Edward Kieswetter: Da Vinci statement
On Monday 8 February 2016 Alexander Forbes announced the early retirement of its CEO, Edward Kieswetter. A statement from the specialised financial services company said Mr Kieswetter was retiring for personal reasons at the end of March 2017.
Mr Kieswetter became a shareholder in The Da Vinci Institute on 25 August 2015, giving him the opportunity to expand his interest in providing world-class higher education, for which The Da Vinci Institute is already well known.
In an interview with Hanna Ziady on Monday, Mr Kiestwetter said relating to other interests he would pursue, “I have not considered any alternative. I’m not in the market at the moment. So for me there are a few important things. The first is a lifestyle choice, allowing me to spend a bit more time with my family.
Secondly, I have a lifelong interest in education. You may recall that last year I acquired a majority share in the Da Vinci Institute, a private university. It will allow me a bit more time to do some of that work.
For the rest, I just want to slow down. Hence the decision to hand over the reins of the leadership role but I will be available to the company – out of the high-pressure position, obviously.”
According to Prof Bennie Anderson, CEO of The Da Vinci Institute, “We are looking forward in working closer with Edward in co-creating alternative education solutions for South Africa and Africa at large.
