There's no time like the present to start managing your stress levels, both for your overall health and for the sake of your appearance. It's officially Stress Awareness Month. And there is no time like the present to start managing your stress levels. Not just for your overall health, but also for the sake of your appearance. Believe it or not, stress and the lack of sleep can negatively impact your looks. When you're feeling stressed out on the inside, chances are it's written all over your face. And, I would guess the stressed out look is not really what you're going for. A little R&R can truly improve your inner and outer beauty. It's all about learning to manage the stress in an effort to look and feel your best. Related Article: Balancing Beauty With Family and Work Does stress really affect your appearance? You bet it does. It can wreak havoc on your looks and your overall health, including your heart, digestion, weight, memory and even your ability to sleep. When you are stressed, your skin is negatively affected, too. Stress can bring on blemishes and breakouts. It can also cause dehydration, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. And when it comes to your hair, both graying and hair loss can be the result of your stress levels. So in the name of beauty, learning to de-stress should be high on the list of your top beauty tips. Teach yourself to relax. You would think relaxing can be easy, but for some people it can be quite difficult. If you can set aside just a few minutes a day to meditate it will serve your mind, body and spirit well. By entering into a relaxed and peaceful state, you release chemicals into your body that will help to counter the stress hormones you are creating. Practicing yoga or deep breathing exercises can help you to learn how to keep calm. When you master this, you can reduce those stress-related symptoms that negatively affect you. Set aside 5 to 10 minutes a day, starting today, and teach yourself how to relax. Here are a few calming tips to try:
If you can dedicate even more than 10 minutes, do it. A few extra minutes out of your crazy day will only help you to further alleviate your stress levels. Get up and get moving. Exercise can be the ideal stress reducer. It not only improves your circulation, which is great for your skin, but it also releases endorphins that can make you feel both energized and calm at the same time. So take a brisk walk, join a fitness class or go on a bike ride. It's the perfect way to reduce stress, clear your mind and achieve that healthy post-exercise glow. Stay focused. There's nothing worse than feeling (and looking) frazzled. So rather than becoming completely overwhelmed by what the day has in store for you, let's try to control it by prioritizing. I love to write my daily tasks down in a notebook. All right, I'm old school. I'm sure there's an app for this somewhere. But, for me, just being able to see the different tasks that I need to complete on a piece of paper gives me a bit more clarity. I can see what must be done versus what I hope to get done. And sometimes I realize that I can push some tasks to a different day. This not only de-stresses me, but it allows me to be more productive. And I love crossing off my completed tasks. Stay focused on what's most important. Managing stress can be difficult. But, we all need to take advantage of every opportunity we can to keep our stress levels under wraps. And there's not time like Stress Awareness Month to get started. Once you have mastered the art of relaxing, you will definitely notice a change in your demeanor and your appearance. Say good-bye to brow furrows and stress lines and say hello to a brand new you. Written by Beauty Expert Jacquie Carter. Jacquie is Director of Outer Nutrition at Herbalife.
