8 HEALTH DANGERS OF WEARING HIGH HEELS

Fashion designers, boutique owners and clothline owners have shown that over 85% of modern woman love heels, but its been medically proven that wearing high heels is detrimental to health at the long run.

According to statistics, high heels are one of the biggest factors leading to foot problems in women.
These are 8 dangers of wearing high heels:

1. High heels alters your body posture thereby placing more pressure on the knee. A study found that knee joint pressure increased by as much as 26% when wearing high heels.

2. High heels affects the calf. Calf muscles contract and adjust to the angle of the high heels, leading to pain and muscle spasms.

3. High heels causes the Achilles tendon to tighten up. The higher the heel is, the shorter the tendon becomes, creating heel pain.

4. High heels force the body’s weight to be redistributed. The increased weight on the toes causes the body to tilt forward, thereby creating a posture that can strain your knees, hips and lower back.

5. High heels cause a change to the position of the spine, thereby putting pressure on nerves in the back and this can cause sciatica, a condition in which the nerves become trapped, triggering pain and numbness in the feet.

6. High heels can cause spondylolisthesis (slippage of one vertebra forward over another), especially in the lumbar region of the spine where the body’s weight is concentrated.

7. High heels puts the wearer at a greater risk of falling because it impairs balance.

8. High heels push the centre of mass in the body forward, taking the hips and spine out of alignment.
