PinkLux: August Inbetweenie Spotlight

Over the last few weeks I have been hinting at a few new things coming to the PinkLux community and the monthly Inbetweenie Spotlight is just one of the new additions. I created the inbetweenie spotlight to showcase inbetweenies who love beauty, fashion or nominated showing strong confidence. If you would like to be or nominate an inbetweenie please email pink.lux.pl@gmail.com.

The August Inbetweenie Spotlight goes to fashion blogger Sarah of Sassy Red Lipstick. I have been following Sarah for some time now and she always represents curvy and inbetweenie women beautifully through her post and on social media. Here's a little about Sarah:

Tell us a little about your blog? How do you use it to influence others?

I started Sassy Red Lipstick in 2013 as a creative outlet to showcase my style. I’ve always loved fashion and it’s always been a big part of my life. I first started interning at Nordstrom my sophomore year of high school and have worked on and off for the company since. In college, I interned in NYC at a fashion forward ad agency, and it was upon my return from that internship that I started my blog. Living in the Big Apple really helped me realize how special individual style is and how much it can inspire others.

A few years into blogging, I started to realize that I wanted to do more than just share my outfits. I wanted to help other women feel confident in themselves. I noticed that there weren’t many women, especially bloggers, out there who openly talked about body positivity and honoring your curves {meaning your body!}. I felt the need to share my story about gaining my own confidence and learning to love my body type. The overwhelming support I received when doing so confirmed what I believed: women have a hard time loving their body {no matter the shape} and there’s not enough body positive role models in the blogging or social media world. Since then, it’s been an amazing experience for me to talk opening about learning to love my body, accepting my shape, and sharing that with the world! I’m definitely an inbetweenie and rock it proudly.

Can you give us three to five tips on how to dress your body no matter the shape or size?

Tips to dress for your body {no matter the shape or size}:
1. Dress in trends that flatter your shape. Not every trend will work for every body shape, and that’s okay! I will never be able to wear culottes because of my thick thighs, and I’m okay with that.
2. If you believe you feel and look good in something, rock it! Confidence will go farther than any outfit ever will.
3. Don’t dress how others tell you to. There’s a reason it’s called personal style.
4. Balance your shape. If you’re wearing boyfriend jeans, wear a fitted tee. If you’re wearing skinny jeans, balance with a flowy top! It’s all about balance when it goes to dressing for your shape.
5. Feel good, look good.

Where do you get your style inspiration and confidence to rock your personal style? What advice would you give to young ladies and women struggling in this area?

As a blogger, I still read other bloggers’ blogs. It’s one of the things I like to do in the morning before I get to work! I love seeing what others are wearing, how they put together outfits, and how I can style something similar {or completely different}. I follow a lot of fashion bloggers on IG, too, but I also think it’s important to follow motivational people or accounts, as well. It’s fun to look at pretty photos, but people who inspire me with their story or what they stand for are even more important to me when it comes to inspiration. For example, I love following Ashley Graham on Instagram and Snapchat. She seriously is the epitome of confidence and I can relate to her shape!

I think it really truly does take time to learn to love your body. I didn’t hate my body in high school, but I didn’t love it either. In college, there were times I absolutely hated it. It’s taken me time to learn to love my body and my best advice would be to always think positive. If you don’t love something, try thinking about what you do love. Or better yet, for me, if there’s something I’m not happy with, I head to the gym. I know my body won’t change in one workout, but I always feel better once I start sweating. I’ll always be a thicker girl, but it’s important to stay healthy {physically and mentally}, too.

What are the essentials you believe every inbetweenie/woman should have in her wardrobe?

A skinny jean with some stretch. My body and thick thighs do NOT fit into jeans without stretch.
A wrap dress. Easily the most flattering dress in my closet. Hugs in all the right places and skims over other areas.
A killer pair of heels. There’s nothing better than a sky high pair of heels. They make your legs look longer and elevate any pair of jeans.
A unique one piece. I loveeeeee my one piece swimsuits and am constantly on the hunt for more! They hold everything in, boost the girls, and finding fun patterns or cutouts make the your beach outfit fun.

What have you enjoyed most about being a fashion blogger and body positive influencer?

As a blogger, it’s always an amazing accomplishment to work with big brands. There’s lot of gifted clothes and accessories. There’s fun staycations, vacations, and cool experiences. But honestly, my very part about blogging is getting to hear from real women. When people send lengthy emails about how I’ve helped them become more confident in themselves or love their bodies more, I just want to cry. Because that’s where I’m actually making a difference. I believe we leave this earth with very little, and helping others feel good about themselves is something that I can take with me. I hope each of my followers knows that I am a real woman. Email me, let’s chat! If you’re in SF, let’s grab lunch! I’m a person with real feelings, who just so happens to share with the world most of my life. Let’s be friends and help each other in this world. There’s nothing I love more than women supporting other women. xx
